Two hundred shops were gutted as a fire broke out at a kitchen market in the city’s Malibagh area early Thursday.
Mahfuz Riven, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room, said the fire originated at a shop of Malibagh kitchen market around 5:27am.
On information, 12 firefighting units rushed in and brought the blaze under control around 6:35 am, he said adding that no casualty was reported.
Meanwhile, Lima Khanam, a duty officer of the fire service central control room, said the fire that burned down 200 shops was fully doused around 9 am. It is not clear yet what actually caused the fire, she said.
