In last 10 years, two hundred parents have been killed by their drug addict children, report says.
Report also said that there are about 80 to 85 lakh drug addicts in the country. Every year about Tk 60,000 crore are being wasted for buying drugs. Currently, the number of drug addicts among children and women is increasing. The girls are also taking yaba like the boys without any hesitation.
The report was revealed at `Meet the Press’ held on Sunday at the media center of the national parliament building under the banner of ‘Dope test in drug control : what to do now’.
Shamsul Haque Tuku, Chairman of the Home Ministry Standing Committee as the chief guest said that not only job seekers, university admission seeker, car drivers and police need to dope tests, but also leaders and activists of
political parties should be brought under dope tests. After the formation of a directorate, this has to be done. That organization will play a strict role to maintain the quality of dope tests.
The report mentions that the picture of the horrors of drugs is quite clear. The media is saying that except for one or two special cases, drug is the root of every crime in the country today.
According to the Department of Narcotics Control, the number of drug addicts in the country is about 6 million. Two-thirds of them are young. Once more drugs like phensidyl, heroin, but now yaba has taken its place. Because it can be easily carried.
The Department of Narcotics Control said 24 types of drugs have been recovered in the country so far. These drugs enter Bangladesh from the border areas of the two neighbouring countries. Latest annual report said that 32 districts along the border of Bangladesh are considered as the most risky as a gateway for drugs.
The Department said that if the demand for drugs in the country decreases, the supply will also decrease. We all need to be aware of this.
