200 MW Solar Plant in Teknaf in the offing

Following the increased demand of power in the country, govt has decided to built up a 200megawatt capacity Solar Plant in Teknaf under Cox’s Bazar district very shortly.
Out of the existing solar panels across the country, Teknaf plant is the first ever biggest plant. Sinagapore -based company ‘San Edison Holding PTI Limited’ will built this plant on BOT basis and “No Electricity No Payment” formula for 20 years duration.
The price of the solar power will be more less than the existing power rate, a PDB sources said. Sources said PDB will purchase the power from the plant and will not pay any capacity tax for that power procurement from the plant.The constructing company will built the plant including purchase of land, installation of transmission line, construction of sub-stations and other expenditure at the company’s end. Sources said the intending investor visited Cox’sBazar, Teknaf, Tetulia , Trisal and Tangail for selecting the suitable place for the plant in March last but finally they selected Teknaf is the most suitable place for that proposed plant.
 An online news sources said the proposal for the solar plant now under the discussions of Govt Procurement committee and waiting for approval. News sources said govt will incur Tk.8,596 crores in connection with the purchase of power from that plant during the period of 20 years. PDB sources said according to Renewable Fuel Policy-2008 , 800 MW power in 2015 and 2000 MW powr will be generated from renewable energy in 2015 and 2020 respectively.
 To achieve the targets govt is working to generate 500 MW power from solar plant .
Under this initiatives of self reliant in power sector, govt has taken this mega solar project in the country very shortly, sources said.
