More than 200 BNP men have been sued in connection with Thursday’s clash at Mirpur in the capital.
Pallabi Police Station’s sub-inspector Saiful Islam filed the case on Friday. Some 75 leaders and workers of BNP and its front organisations, and some 100 to 150 unidentified persons have been made accused in the case.
Police brought the charges of obstructing them in performing their duties, vandalism and injuring them in the case.
Pallabi Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Parvez Islam said seven accused were arrested in connection with the case, while raids were going on to arrest other accused.
On Thursday afternoon, BNP was holding a rally at No. 6 Mukul Fouz ground at Mirpur. But leaders and activists of local AL, Chhatra League and Jubo League, wielding sticks, chased the BNP men to foil the rally, triggering series of clashes, chase and counter-chase from both sides. BNP men also retaliated the ruling party men with throwing brick chips.
Police personnel had to fire numerous tear shells to disperse them.
Several hundreds of leaders and workers of BNP were injured when Awami League hoodlums launched attacks on unarmed BNP activists, said BNP Dhaka City North member secretary Aminul Huq.
On September 10, BNP announced to hold demonstration at 16 places in Dhaka today in Mirpur area, protesting increase in price of daily essentials, fuel and killing of party men during the recent protest in Bhola and Narayanganj.
