Jhenidah Correspondent :
At least 20 people, including an Imam of mosque, were injured in a clash between two rival groups of villagers at Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah on Tuesday.
The clash took place at Debtola village of the upazila in the morning.
The injured people were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex and Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.
Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between two local leaders of the Awami League-former president of the upazila unit of Juba League Shamsuzaman Panna Khan and former UP chairman and local AL leader Nasir Khan of Debtola village over establishing supremacy in the area. Several days ago, some people of each group changed their groups and joined the rival group.
For this reason and as sequel to the conflict, the two rival groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving 20 from both sides injured. Among the injured, Nurul Islam, the Imam of mosque, Azimuddin, Bablu, Azim, Akkas Ali and Abdul are in serious condition.
