At least 20 Ready Made Garment (RMG) workers were injured in clash with police while they set out to protest for the eighth day (Sunday).
The incident occurred at the Jamgora area near Abdullahpur-Baipail highway in the morning when police tried to disperse the workers, positioned on the road protesting discrepancies in the new wage structure.
In addition to labour unrest, some 50 factories in the area have declared a holiday from Sunday.
Around 9:30am, the workers hurled brickbats towards the police. Then the police charged batons on them fired teargas shells and used water cannons to disperse the protestors, leaving 10 injured. Over 50 garment factories in Ashulia were closed for Sunday as garment workers staged demonstration for the seven consecutive day, the Police official said.
