Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 20 people, including six women and two children, while they were being trafficked to India through Putkhali border point here on Monday.
All the victims hail from different parts of Narail, Pirojpur, Bagerhat and Barisal districts.
Apurbo Hasan, inspector of Benapole Port Police Station, said a team of the border force, on secret information, conducted a drive in Balurmath area of the border at about 6:00 am and arrested the 20 people while they were being trafficked to India. Quoting the arrestees, police said the human traffickers were sending them to India with promise of lucrative jobs there. However, the traffickers ran away from the spot sensing the presence of the BGB members.
Later, the rescued people were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
