Staff Reporter :The BNP-led 20-party will now stage countrywide demonstration next Sunday against the hike in gas and electricity price. As per the programme, it will hold protest rallies and bring out processions across the country. The 20-party alliance initially called the demonstrations for Saturday. Later, they shifted the date by a day, as the Hindu community would observe Janmashtami on Saturday. BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan made the announcement in a press release on Wednesday night.Nazrul Islam Khan urged the leaders and the workers of the 20-party alliance to observe the demonstration programme across the country. This is the first political programme of the alliance after its three-month long nonstop hartal and blockade that began January 5. The alliance urged the countrymen to forge united protests against such anti-people decision. Otherwise, the government will increase the price of gas and power again in December.The government has increased power prices by 2.97 percent and gas prices by 26.29 percent with effect from September 1.
