The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called a fresh 72-hour countrywide non-stop hartal amid ongoing countrywide non-stop blockade programme. The shutdown programme will begin from 6:00 am tomorrow (Sunday) and it will continue till 6:00 am of Wednesday.
BNP Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press statement, on behalf of the 20-party alliance, on Friday announced the hartal programme protesting the threats to arrest BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and torching her Gulshan office.
The hartal has also been called to protest Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s order to law enforcers to thwart the ongoing movement by any means. The statement also denounced the hurling of bomb on BNP senior leaders’ residences, attack on BNP Chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman and killing of about 21 leaders and workers of the BNP and its allies in fire, crossfire and the so-called gunfight.
Rizvi called upon the leaders and workers of the 20-party alliance and the countrymen to observe the hartal peacefully and spontaneously. The 72-hr hartal will start a day before start of the SSC examinations.
The BNP leader in another statement said that the 20-party alliance would continue the countrywide non-stop blockade. The statement came
a day after the Education Minister urged the alliance to withdraw the blockade during the SSC examinations beginning on Monday.
“The blockade which has gained momentum will continue until the downfall of the present government,” he said.
Reacting to the urge of the Education Minister, Rizvi said, “The Minister has urged us to withdraw the blockade considering the sufferings of the SSC examinees. The 16 crore people of the country are experiencing untold sufferings due to the misrule and misdeeds of the government, which came to power illegally and receiving 5 percent voters. The SSC examinees as well as the countrymen will get rid of the sufferings if the government quits power and accepts our demand.”
He alleged that the government had intensified its torture on the leaders and workers of the 20-party alliance in attempt to cling to power. It won’t sustain in the power by killing and torturing the opposition men, he said.
