At least 20 people went missing after a trawler capsized in the Meghna River at Charjhapta under Sadar upazila in Munshiganj district on Wednesday.
On getting information, police, river police, coast guard, BIWTA, fire service members and officials from local administration rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
The accident took place when a soil laden trawler with 34 workers was heading towards Narayanganj sank in the river after it collided with a goods laden ship around 4:00am. Asad Ali, Sub-Inspector of Gazaria River Police Outpost, confirmed the news to media that about 14 workers managed to swim ashore, but 20 remained missing.
Of them, 18 workers hailed from Pabna district.
