The government has allocated 20-kg rice for each of the four lakh four thousand and 315 poor families under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to assist them celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha festivity in Nilphamari district.
“We have already got the huge quantity of 8,086 tonnes VGF rice allocated by the government through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief,” said District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) of Nilphamari ATM Akhteruzzaman.
He said the allocated rice would be distributed among the VGF card holder poor, distressed, flood-hit and natural calamity-affected families in all six upazilas and four municipalities of the district before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
“We have also taken preparations for distribution of 20-kg VGF rice among each of the beneficiary card holder family with assistance of the upazila administrations, local public representatives and union level committees,” he said.
Under the programme, 7,089 tonnes of VGF rice has been allocated for distribution among three lakh 90 thousand and 452 families of six upazilas and 277.26 tonnes rice for distribution among 90 thousand and 690 families of four municipalities in Nilphamari.
Of them, 67 thousand 188 families of Dimla upazila, 53 thousand 701 families of Domar, 78 thousand families of Jaldhaka, 56 thousand 547 families of Kishoreganj, 90 thousand 690 families of Sadar and 44 thousand 326 families of Syedpur upazilas will get the rice.
“Besides, four thousand 621 families of Nilphamari, four thousand 621 families of Syedpur, three thousand 81 families of Jaldhaka and one thousand 540 families of Domar municipalities will get 20-kg VFG rice each this time,” Akhteruzzaman added.
