Staff Reporter :
Chairmen of 20 departments of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) have resigned their posts as part of their protest against assault on them and some other fellow teachers by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader.
They said that the JUST authorities have failed to establish justice and award punishment to those persons who were behind the offence.
JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Anwar Hossain, however, did not accept the resignation letters saying those were not submitted through proper protocol.
When contacted, the VC said that he had heard that several departments’ chairmen submitted resignation letters, but those letters did not reach him for not submitting through proper channel.
The VC also assured them that necessary steps would be taken after the probe body’s report.
General Secretary of JUST Teachers’ Association Najmul Hasan said that the chairmen of 20 departments out of 24 sent the resignation letters to the VC who didn’t accept those and asked them to keep patience.
Meanwhile, the teachers of the JUST on Sunday threatened for tough movement if the accused BCL leaders were not brought to justice.
President of JUST Teachers’ Association Iqbal Kabir Zahid said that they would go for a movement if the authorities did not ensure justice.
On January 12, Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Humaira Ajmiri Erin misbehaved with some teachers over a ragging incident on the campus.
Following the incident, the teachers boycotted classes demanding her punishment.
Later, they joined classes upon assurance that action would be taken against her. But in the meeting held on February 19, the board did not take any initiative in this regard, according to the JUST teachers’ association.
