Police arrested 18 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir on charges of sabotage acts from different areas of Sitakunda upazila, Satkhania and Lohagara upazila in the district on Saturday night.
On secrete information, a team of Sitakunda thana police in separate raids on Saturday night arrested 10 Jamaat-Shibir men from different areas of the upazila.
Another team of Lohagara police arrested six Jamaat-Shibir men from different areas of the upazila.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Lohagara thana Mohammad Shahjahan said the Jamaat-Shibir activists were arrested for planning sabotage acts. Jakir Hossain, Sub Inspector of Satkhania thana said they arrested two activists of Jammat for their sabotage activities recently.
Another report adds : Police arrested two Jamaat leaders from Kanchon Nagar area in Fatikchari upazila of the district yesterday afternoon.
They also seized huge arms and ammunitions from their possessions.
On a tip-off, a team of police raided a house of Jamaat leader Abdur Rashid and seized two country-made light guns, 11 bullets, 42 petrol bombs and huge bomb making accessories from his house.
