Some 20 fishermen were abducted in two days difference by pirates from Sundarbans. On July Wednesday, 8 fishermen were abducted from Mora Poshur, Jhapsi and Bhadra canal area adjacent to the Sundarbans and on July 13 (Friday), 12 fishermen were abducted from Mora Poshur and Andharia area adjacent to the Sundarbans while they went for fishing, sources said.
Lt. Abdullah Al Mahmud, operation officer of West Zone Coastguard ascertained the matter of abduction to the journalists.
Of course, among the abducted, 8 fishermen managed to escape after giving ransom, but the rest 12 fishermen yet to be rescued, till filing this report on Saturday noon at around 2 pm.
Coastguard operation officer Lt. Abdullah Al Mahmud said, after hearing the news of fishermen abduction, drives by the members of coastguard are being conducted with a view to rescue them from the hands of the pirates.
Two fishermen-Mohajon said, fishermen are always in fear for the attack by pirates as they often are victimized by the forest robbers while they go for fishing at different areas in the Sundarbans.
As the patrols by the law enforcers are not being conducted in the adjacent areas of the Sundarbans, misdeeds by the pirates have increased, they alleged.
Earlier, on demand of ransom, at least thirteen fishermen were abducted from Sundarbans in two days difference by a forest robber gang named ” Kajol Bahini”. Among them seven were abducted on Sunday (May 13, 2018) and six others were abducted on the next day, i, e, on Monday (May 14, 2018).
Sources said, on Sunday, some fishermen went for collecting crabs in the river Maloncho in Satkhira Range of the Sundarbans. All on a sudden, a forest robber gang named “Kajol Bahini” swooped on them and abducted seven fishermen on demand of ransom.
