At least 20 BNP leaders and activists including district president and secretary indicted in case for arson attack on Barisal court room.
On other hand an internal probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
Arson attack burnt at the locked court room of Shahinur Begum, senior judicial magistrate for Wazirpur and Banaripara upazila, at the Barisal District Judge Court premises on Thursday s night.
Most of the documents preserved at that court and adjacent room of the Serestadar of Janonirapatta Adalat were burnt and damaged by fire and efforts to extinguishing flame.
Md. Alauddin, senior station officer of fire service and civil defense Barisal station, said the arson attack was proved as sabotage by torching the premise with inflammable items like petrol to spread the flame rapidly.
Primary report in this regard submitted to Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner on Friday and another committee with representatives from judiciary, administration, police, public works department and electric supply will work for estimating the damages, Alauddin added.
After receiving the report from fire service, police lodged the case in this regard and started investigation to find out the cause, identify and arrest the attackers of arson and strengthening security at the court premises, said Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
The case in this connection was lodged by Sub Inspector Mojibor Rahman as complainant on Friday night with Barisal Kotwali police station. In that case 23 BNP leaders and activists including 8 by-name were accused for the arson attack.
The by-name accused eight included Ebaidul Huq Chan, president, Abul Kalam Shahin, secretary of district (south) BNP, Mahbubur Rahman Pintu, joint convener of city Swechhasebok Dal, Shohidul Islam Anis, Rofikul Islam Jony, joint conveners of city JCD, Maruf, Rahat, Harun, front organisation and BNP activists of local ward.
Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said Sub Inspector Delwar Hossain investigating the case and police started drive to arrest the suspected accused.
On other hand a 5-member departmental probe committee with chief metropolitan magistrate as head was formed after conducting a meeting of district judge courtship presided by Anwarul Huq, district and session judge on Friday night.
The judges of first additional , second joint district and session judge, chief judicial, senior assistant judge of judicial magistrate courts included in the committee as members, said Jalal Ahmed, Nazir of Barisal district and session judge.
The committee asked to submit their report within next three working days and the meeting suggested to install close-circuit cameras at the court premises immediately, the Nazir added.
