Chittagong city and district police in a series of drives detained 20 activists of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir from different area of the Chittagong city and district on Sunday night.
Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district said police detained 14 activists in overnight raids at various places of Mirsari, Sitakunda, Satkhania and Lohagara Upazilas on Sunday night.
Panchliash thana police in a series of drives arrested five Islami Chhatra Shibir activists including its President and General secretary of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital unit from different area under the police station. Another Islami Chatra Shibir activist was also arrested by Bakalia thana for involving the blockade activities.
Among the detainees, three were Jamaat activists, eight Islami Chhatra Shibir activists and nine BNP activists, the police officer said adding that they were detained to prevent possible acts of sabotage during country-wide blockade and hartal enforced by BNP-led 20 party alliance.
