Police in a drive arrested two women for their alleged attempt to kidnap a schoolgirl on the Mujib Road in the district town on Sunday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Rita, 20, daughter of Sanwar Hossain of the town, and Shapla, 20, daughter of Shah Alam of Sadar upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Habibul Islam said the two women-Rita and Shapla-tried to kidnap Asha, a class IV student of Haimobala Girl High School and daughter of Abdus Salam of the district town, on her way back home from school around 5:00pm.
As Asha raised screams, local people rescued her and caught the two alleged kidnappers red handed.
On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested the kidnappers.
A case was filed.
The arrestees will be produced before a court today (Monday), police said.
