2 women get life for Jahanara murder in Rajshahi

A court here on Tuesday sentenced two women to life imprisonment in sexagenarian Jahanara Begum murder case of Paba Upazila of the district.
District and Session Judge Shahid Ahmed pronounced the verdict in presence of them.
The convicts are: Champa Begum, 38, and Anwara Begum, 45, both of Bargachhi Khapara in the same upazila.
Eight other accused of the case- Champa’s husband Abbas Ali, 40, his brother Akhtar Ali, 27, Anwara’s son Sabuj, 26, and another Rehana Begum- were acquitted as the murder charge brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution story, the accused led by Champa Begum strangulated Jahanara Begum to death in her bedroom while she sleeping there alone on the night of September 6, 2012.
Son of the victim Mijanur Rahman Faruque lodged a case with Paba Police Station on the same day. After the investigation, police submitted charge sheet accusing 14 persons.
After examining the recorded deposition of 23 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the judge handed down the verdict.
