A court of Dhaka on Tuesday convicted two persons and sentenced them to death in a double murder case.
The convicts are : Sayeed Hawlader and Riaz Nagar Ali. They were also fined Tk 20,000 each. Sayeed is a son of late Harun Hawlader, who was arrested from Railway Colony area of Sonadanga Upazila in Khulna, while Riaz Nagar Ali, son of Mosaddek Ali, was detained from Karoibari under Muradnagar Upazila in Comilla.
Judge Abdur Rahman Sarder of the Speedy Trial Tribunal -4 handed down the verdict. According to the prosecution, police recovered the throat slit bodies of Rowshan Ara Begum, 68, and her domestic help Kalpana Akhter, 12, from Rowshan’s 56 North Jatrabari Kolapatti flat in the capital on the night of March 28, last year. Rowshan was the wife of late Additional Police Super Abdul Quddus. Jatrabari police arrested Sayeed from Shahjahanpur area two days after the murder.
The prosecution adds, on March 24 in 2015, the convicts killed the victims at Rowshan’s flat. Both the accused confessed to a court as per Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure that both friends killed Rowshan and Kalpana after stealing at Rowshan’s flat house. Kalpana’s brother Mozammel Hossain filed the murder case with Jatrabari Police Station.
Investigation Officer of the case and a Sub-Inspector of Police, Iqbal Hossain submitted the charge sheet to the court against the two accused to the court. Of the 29 witnesses, 11 testified in the case.
