The customs authorities arrested two traffic helpers along with 40 gold bars worth Tk 2. 40 crore at Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Sunday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Belal Hossain, 40, and Sheikh Kamal, traffic helpers of the airport.
Customs officials said a flight of Fly Dubai, FZ 589, landed at the airport around 9:30am.
Customs officials noticed the two helpers to remove two cartons of cigarettes while goods were being unloaded from cargo around 10:30am.
Then the official challenged them and caught them.
They recovered 40 gold bars weighing 4.6kg from the two packs.
Syed Mokaddem Hossain, assistant director of the customs, confirmed the incident.
