Staff Reporter :Detectives have arrested two central leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal [JCD] and recovered 20 petrol bombs from their possession after raiding city’s Gabtali area on Wednesday night.The arrestees were identified as Md Zakir Hossain, Assistant Organising Secretary of the central unit of JCD and also President of Jahangirnagar University unit JCD, and Mrinal Kanti Das, Assistant General Secretary of the central unit of JCD.”Acting on a tip-off, a team of detectives arrested the duo from the counter of ‘Rojina’ bus service at Darus Salam of Gabtali area at about 8 pm and recovered 20 firebombs from their possession,” said Manirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of Detective and Criminal Intelligence Division at a press briefing on Thursday.The detective boss said that the arrestees confessed to have kept the bombs there for carrying out sabotage in the area. “The duo also admitted that they had padlocked doors of different departments at the Dhaka University a few days back during the strike enforced by JCD,” he said.He said that about 10 to 15 JCD members managed to flee while the two were detained with 20 petrol bombs.The police official also claimed the JCD activists had gathered in the area to lob bombs at vehicles at the behest of BNP central leaders.
