2 to die, one gets life for killing Narsingdi FF

A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced two people to death and another person to life imprisonment for killing a freedom fighter at Birajnagar village in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi district in 2016.
The condemned convicts are Zakir Hossain, victim’s stepbrother, and Amjad Hossain of the same village while the lifer is Abdul Mannan. The court also fined Amjad Hossain Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six more months in jail.
Monir Kamal, judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3, handed down the verdict with the convicts standing in the dock.
According to the prosecution, freedom fighter Abdul Hai had been at loggerheads with his stepbrother Zakir over the share of their ancestral land. Zakir along with Amjad and Mannan swooped on Abdul Hai near a garden around 9pm on March 26, 2016 and stabbed him indiscriminately while he was returning home, leaving him severely injured.
Hearing Hai’s screams, locals rushed in and took the injured to Shibpur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Later, victim’s son Rimon Miah filed a case with Shibpur Police Station accusing six people over the murder.
On January 22, 2017, investigation officer of the case Inspector Syed Mizanur submitted a charge-sheet in the case.
