Police arrested seven alleged extortionists from the city’s Badda area on Friday evening following a firing that left two of the gangsters injured. Two policemen were also injured in the incident. Police had information that a gang of 7-8 extortionists went to a house at Road-10 of DIT Rehabilitation Project to collect toll, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station MA Jalil told UNB. Based on the information, a police team conducted a drive at the house around 5:30pm to arrest the criminals, he said. However, the gangsters tried to flee the scene firing on the law enforcers that prompted police to fire in self defence. Two of the hoodlums sustained bullet injuries in the firing, the OC said, adding that two constables — Afzal and Kaiser — were also injured in the incident. Police arrested seven extortionists, including bullet-hit Robin, 19, and Bachchu, 20, and recovered a pistol. The injured extortionists were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while the two policemen to Rajarbagh Police Hospital. – UNB, Dhaka.
