2 suspected militants held in city

Staff Reporter :Two suspected militants were picked up from the capital’s Mohammadpur area by the members of Detective Branch of police on Wednesday midnight. The detainees are identified as ‘Abdullah’ and ‘Tamal’. “One of them is the chief of the party while the other is the financier,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar told the journalists on Thursday. He said three handguns, 16 rounds of ammunition and some explosives were recovered in the drive. On May 30, Abdullah Al Galib, 25, was picked up from Baridhara DOHS by detective police.DB Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam said that Galib was one of the coordinators of the banned Islamic outfit, Ansarullah Bangla Team.Before joining it, he was associated with the Hizb-ut Tahrir and Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), two other banned Islamic outfits, the DB official said.He recently launched a militant organisation called the ‘Junud At-Tawheed Wal Khilafah’ with the aim of establishing Khilafat in Bangladesh and collected 10 to 15 members and started training them, Sheikh Nazmul Alam said.A video seized from Galib’s house was screened. It showed nine masked men wearing sports trousers and black T-shirts had pistols or revolvers in hands. The Kalima Taiyyiba was seen written on a banner behind them. It seemed that the video had been shot in the courtyard of a house.In early June, police arrested nine members of HuJI and Ansarullah Bangla Team and said the militants were getting involved with bank robbery and hacking of customer accounts to raise funds.
