Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive detained two suspected members of a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from the city’s Pallabi on Tuesday.
The arrested activists were identified as Atiqur Rahman alias Milon son of Abul Kashem, from Nilphamari district and Khademul Islam alias Gajoatul, 28, son of Ismail Mir from Barisal district.
They also seized lethal weapons, leaflets, money
in cash and some Jihadi books, RAB official said. RAB-4 Special Company Commander Mostofa Kamal said, “Acting on a tip-off, the elite force raided Lalmatia in Pallabi area at night and arrested them with five inciting books, leaflets and four sharp weapons.”
Of them, Khadem was recruited for giving shelter to fresh militants while Milon used to arrange fund for giving shelter to the youths who left homes to join militancy, the elite force official said.
They were motivated by Sarwar alias Abdur Rahman alias Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif and Tamim Chowdhury, he said.
Earlier, RAB claimed that Sarwar alias Abdur Rahman alias Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif and Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim belonged to the New JMB.
Sarwar sustained injuries after jumping from a five-storied building in Ashulia in the face of a RAB raid to escape arrest on October 8. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Savar the same day.
Tamim was killed in a drive at a militants’ den in Paikpara area of Narayanganj town on August 27.
