Two meritorious students of the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Prof Zia Haider Memorial Scholarship” for their outstanding results in BA (Honours) examination of 2012. Awardees are Katherine Purification and Ira Ahmed. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the students as chief guest at a function held recently at Nat Mondal auditorium.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman and cultural personality Ramendu Majumder addressed it as special guests.
Artist Rashid Haider, younger brother of Zia Haider also addressed the function.
Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the brilliant students to equip themselves with humanitarian values by following the ideal of Prof Zia Haider.
He stressed the need for strengthening friendly relationship between teachers and students to maintain congenial academic atmosphere in the educational institutions. Attack on the teachers by the students is never acceptable, he mentioned. Students have to show respect to the elders by equipping our social heritage, he added.
