Two siblings died inhaling toxic gas as they fell into a septic tank when trying to rescue their cousin from the same reservoir at Sombazar in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Mohsin Mia, 40, and his younger brother Masum Ali Mia, 28, son of Mofazzal Mia in Uttar Sombazaar village under Tumilia Union of the upazila.
The deceased’s cousin Jewel Mia, 28, received injuries in the same incident, police said.
Quoting locals, Shafiqul Islam, Sub-Inspector of Kaliganj Police Station, said, Mohsin and Masum tried to rescue their cousin Jewel when he trapped inside a septic tank at Sombazar around 1:00 pm on Sunday.
Receiving the information the local people rushed to spot and admitted them to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition.
The doctors at the health complex referred Mohsin and Masum to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as their condition deteriorated. But the siblings died on their way to DMCH near Airport around 2:00pm.
The bodies were buried at the family graveyard without post mortem as per the request of the victim’s family, the police official said.
Jewel is undergoing treatment at Tongi Upazila Health Complex, the SI said.
