2 sentenced to life term, 3 others to different terms of imprisonment in two case and counter cases

A Barishal court on Wednesday August 19, 2020 declaring verdicts of one murder case and its counter case after 20-years of incident sentenced two accused of murder case to life term and another one to three-year imprisonments and two accused of counter-case to 10-year imprisonments.
Other 16 accused of murder case and 5 accused of counter case were acquitted from charges founding not guilty.
Muhammad Mahbub Alam, acting judge of Barishal first additional district and session judge court, handing down both judgments also fined each of life term convicted accused Tk. 1 lakh and another sentenced accused Tk 5 thousand for killing Motahar Haoladar, a grocery trader of Miarhut Bazaar under Mehendiganj upazila of Barishal on March 27, 2001. Besides Motaleb Haoladar and Siraj Haoladar, both cousins, accused in counter case lodged in this connection were sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for their involvement in clash. Advocate Azizur Rahman Riaz, pleader of the murder case, said the life term convicted two accused siblings were Babul Shikdar (absconding) and Jahangir Shikdar and 3-year sentenced accused was Mamun Shikdar of West Ratanpur area of the upazila.
The brief history of the cases were Motahar, Mantu and Mujahar Haoladar were critically injured by their old rivals led by Motaleb Haoladar and Siraj Haoladar on March 27, 2001 noon at Miarhut Bazaar.
Among them Motahar Haoladar succumbed to his injuries at Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital at night of the same date.
Azahar Haoladar, brother of killed Motahar Haoladar, as complainant lodged a murder case against 19 accused on next day with Mehendiganj police station.
Joynab Begum, mother of Babul Shikdar, lodged a counter case accusing seven persons including Mantu and Mujahar Haoladar for attacking and injuring Molaleb and Siraj and others, ten days after the incident.
Police investigating both case and counter case filed charge sheets two years after the incidents and the court announced verdict after examining more than 20 witnesses of both cases.
