Two schoolgirls drowned in a pond at Parabaria village in Bagatipara upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Tripti, a class V student of Galimpur Government Primary School, and Pushpita, a class VII student of Baratipara Girls’ High School.
Local people said at first Tripti drowned in the pond while taking bath in the afternoon.
Later, Pushpita, maternal cousin of Tripti, had also watery grave while she went to save Tripti jumping into the pond.
