A Chittagong court yesterday awarded life-term imprisonment to two persons for raping a girl at Khalurghat area under Chandgaon thana in the city on September 2 in 2002.
Judge Mohammad Rezaul Karim of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal- 1 delivered the judgment convicting Mohammad Shukkur and Mohammad Jahangir of the same area.
The court also fined each of them TK 50 thousand.
The prosecution story is, in brief, that Shukkur and Jahangir forcibly raped a 16-year-old girl after taking her to Khalurghat.
Victim filed a case with Chandgaon thana in this connection on September 10 in 2002 while police submitted charge-sheet on January 2 in 2003 and the court framed charges on February 17 in 2003.
The court also asked the Nezarat Deputy Collector of Chittagong to realise the penalty from the convicts and give the money to the victim.
The court sent the convicts to the jail immediately after announcement of the verdict yesterday.
