Land grabbing: 2 RAB men among 5 held in city

The Uttarkhan police detained five people, including two members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in connection with alleged land grabbing in Faujir Bagan area of Uttara in the capital on Sunday afternoon. Of the detainees, Abdullah Al Mahmud and Mizanur Rahman worked for RAB headquarters at Kurmitola. They were identified as Sub- Inspectors (SI) according to their Identity Cards, police said. However, the identities of the others could not be known immediately. The Officer-in-Charge of Uttarkhan Police Station, Yunus Ali, told the reporters that they arrested the five persons, including two RAB men, from the spot while they were trying to grab 1.5 acres of land in Faujir Bagan area in Uttara. Nisharul Arif, the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Circle under Dhaka Metropoliton Police (DMP) said the arrestees were also involved with vandalism and assault to landowners, besides land grabbing.  He added that police are trying to confirm the real identity of the RAB men through investigation.
