2 polling officers die of cardiac arrest

Two polling officers of the second phase of UZ election died of cardiac arrest in separate incidents at Keraniganj of Dhaka and Khetlal in Jaipurhat centres on Thursday. Both of them were school teachers in their respective areas, according to Election Commission (EC) source. Of them Shahidul Islam, polling officer of centre 192 died of cardiac arrest on Thursday morning before the voting began, EC official Ashfaqur Rahman told the media. The EC immediately appointed a new polling officer so that voting does not suffer. In another incident Palash Chandra Mahanta who was polling officer of Khetlal Upazila of centre 31 died at around 11 AM on the day. The EC immediately made alternative arrangements to conduct undisrupted voting, the official source added. The age of the polling officers could not be immediately known.
