Two alleged pirates were killed in “gunfight” with elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Sundarbans under Mongla upazila in Bagerhat on Friday morning.
One of the victims was identified as Sagir, 30, the second-in-command of a notorious local dacoit gang named Daroga Bahini, said Major Adnan Kabir, Deputy Commander of RAB-8.
But the identity of another one could not be known immediately, he said.
The shootout took place in the Shimanar Khal area within Chandpai Range around 6:30am, the official said. “A RAB team raided
the area during the gang’s preparation for a heist.”
“Sensing their presence, the pirates opened fire, forcing the RAB men to strike back. As a result two decoits were killed,” he said.
The law enforcers recovered 12 firearms, including seven single barrel guns, a shooter gun, a 9mm pistol and 50 bullets from the spot, he said.
