Two people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus carrying picnickers hit a covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Sultana temple area in Sitakundu upazila on Friday.
The identities of the deceased could not be
known immediately. Masud Alam, inspector of Kumira Highway Police Camp, said the accident took place around 3:45 am when the Cox’s Bazar-bound bus ‘Yara-71’ from Dhaka dashed the covered van from behind, leaving two bus passengers dead on the spot and 20 others injured.
Among the injured, 16 were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Power supply to the area was suspended as the covered van hit an electric pole being hit by the bus, said police.
Police seized the two vehicles.
