Two patients Sumaya Khatun (19) and Mili Begum (50) allegedly died for wrong treatments at Bonpara Health Care General Hospital and at Rajapur Sourove Clinic & Nursing Home in Baraigram Upazila under Natore district on Sunday.
Of them, a patient Sumaya of appendicitis disease died at Bonpara Health Care General Hospital on Sunday.
On the matters, the hospital was closed and locked up by the order of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anwar Perves for her abnormal death and the license of the hospital was not renewed since 1916.
Sumaya Khatun was a wife of Sujon Ali of village Ulupur under Gurudaspur upazila and daughter of Rahabul Islam of the village Talswo under Baraigram upazila. Also, she was a student of class ten of Baraigram Girl’s High School. Sumaya’s mother Momena Begum said, Sumaya suddenly felt seriously pain at her belly on Saturday morning. Then she was taken at Bonpara Health Care General Hospital for treatment.
After checking and examining her body, acting doctor Samira Tabassum Akter Sathi advised her for an operation of appendicitis disease and she did an operation at about 9 o’clock on Saturday night. After operation, she felt very uneasy and crying for pain of operation. But at about 4 am on Sunday, Sumaya said to me, “Mother, I shall sleep, do not call me.” Then she went at silence. I thought,my daughter was sleeping. At about 8 am on Sunday, a nurse Arifa Khatun measured her pressure and went away saying nothing. Doubting this matter, I touched my daughter’s body and understood she was died. Sumaya’s mother Momena Begum said this story of death to this correspondent on Sunday.
Hospital sources said, the operation of Sumaya Khatun was done by Dr.Samira Tabassum Akter Sathi. She was not present at the hospital. Also, it was not possible to communicate with her because her phone was closed.
Hearing this matter, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anwar Perves, Additional Police Super (ASP) of Baraigram circle Harun Ar Rashid and a Medical Officer of Baraigram Health Complex Doctor Khaled Mahmud Siddiki came to the spot.
After seeing the experiment reports and prescription of Sumaya,Dr.Khaled Mahmud Siddiki said, necessary experiments were not done, but unnecessary experiments were done in case of this operation. Also, Dr.Samira Tabassum Akter Sathi is not a surgeon and expert in this operation. He also opined that the patient was died due to want of a surgeon and anesthesia in this hospital.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anwar Perves said, there were 3 cabins, 14 beds in the hospital, but no sufficient doctors, lab. machine and equipments for experiment.The hospital was dirty. Also, the license of the hospital was not renewed since 1916. On the matters, the hospital was closed and locked up by the order of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anwar Perves, ASP Harun Ar Rashid said, a case is under process of filing in this connection. The dead body has been sent for autopsy to Natore hospital morgue.
Another patient Mili Begum (50) died for wrong treatment at Rajapur Sourove Clinic & Nursing Home in Baraigram upazila on Sunday. Mili Begum was a wife of Khalilur Rahman of the village Rahimpur under Ishurdi upazila. After experiment, doctor Sagar Ali diagnosed appendicitis disease of the patient and he did the operation on last Wednesday. In a critical condition, Mili Begum was taken to Pabna Sadar Government Hospital on Sunday morning.
After examining, acting doctors of the hospital declared, the diagnosis of the patient was wrong. She was not a patient of appendicitis. Then Mili Begum died there Sunday noon.
Following the situation , the relatives of Mili Begum attacked Rajapur Sourove Clinic & Nursing Home Sunday afternoon and broke chair, table, window, glass etc. of it. In that time, doctors, nurses were not present there. ASP Harun -ur -Rashid confirmed the matter.
