Staff Reporter :Officer-in-Charges (OCs) of two police stations in Bagerhat have been withdrawn for their failure to ensure congenial environment needed for the upcoming Union Parishad polls to be held on March 22. Assistant Superintendent of Police of Bagerhat district Goutam Kumar Biswas said Morelganj Police Station’s OC Md Rashed Alam and Rampal Police Station’s OC Rafiqul Islam had been withdrawn after receiving instructions from the Election Commission (EC).He said that the two police officers had been attached with the District Police lines.Earlier, Deputy Secretary of EC Shamsul Alam sent a letter to the Police Headquarters for their replacement by “efficient OCs.”Another EC official said that the Commission had asked for their removal based on complaints received from candidates in their respective Upazilas.Bagerhat District Election Officer Md Ruhul Amin Mallick told the reporters that the two police officers had not given due attention to the complaints lodged by the BNP and independent candidates.Voting will be held in 74 unions under nine upazilas of Bagerhat on March 22 in the first phase of the six-phase polls.Ruhul Amin said that election to Mulghar union council in Fakirhat had been suspended on a court order.
