Officers-in-Charge (OC) of two police stations in Tangail have been closed to range office following the firing on rape protest that left four persons dead.
The police personnel are: Ghatail Police Station OC Mukhlesur Rahman and Kalihati Police Station OC Shahidul Islam.
The police officials were closed on Sunday night, said Sharifur Rahman, ASP of Tangail (South).
Earlier on Saturday, three Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and four constables of Kalihati police were withdrawn in connection with firing. Meanwhile, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directive to form a judicial body to probe into the police-locals clash in Tangail.
The petition seeks a court order for a judicial probe by a panel headed by a serving or former High Court judge, said Fauzia Karim Firoz, who is also a member of the National Human Rights Commission. It also sought a rule on the matter.
An HC vacation bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Jafar Ahmed on Monday set September 30 as the date of hearing of the petition.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA) Executive Director Salma Ali filed the petition with the High Court.
Advocate Salma Ali also moved for the petition that sought a judicial inquiry commission led by a retired judge while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam argued for the State.
Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dhaka Range DIG, Additional DIG (discipline), Tangail Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP), Kalihati OC and two others were made defendants in the writ petition.
On September 18, three people were killed and more than 50 other injured in a clash between locals and police while protesting against the alleged rape of a woman in front of her son.
On Sunday, another man succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The police headquarters has formed a three-member panel to probe the incident while two cases were filed with Kalihati and Ghatail police stations in connection with the protest incident against over 700 unidentified people.
