Two newborn boys died for reportedly wrong treatment by a fake gynecologist at a private clinic in Nawabpur Bazar of Chandina upazila on Thursday.
The fake gynecologist is identified as Kamrunahar, owner of Nawabpur Medical Centre. However, police recovered the bodies from the clinic and arrested the gynecologist’s assistant Yesmin, 35, while the main culprit was on the run, said Md Ali Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Chandina Model Police Station.
Deceased’s fathers are identified as expatriate Sariful Islam of Karyarpara village and Omar Faruk of Kongai village in the upazila.
Talking to UNB, father Omar Faruk said being informed by locals about the fame of the gynecologist, he admitted his wife to the clinic on Thursday after completing the prescribed ultrasonography.
Later in the day, his wife gave birth to a baby boy through cesarean section, but the condition of both the mother and her bay was being worst after the delivery.
Observing the condition, fake gynecologist Kamrunahar prescribed an injection for the baby and the father brought it. “But, my baby died immediately after pushing the injection,” said Omar Faruk.
However, when contacted, district Civil Sargon and Family Planning Officer Dr Nasima Akhter said that they were not informed about the incidents.
“Necessary legal steps would be taken against the fake doctor if found guilty,” she added.
