Two new vaccines have been introduced in the Extended Programme on Immunization (EPI) in Nilphamari district from this month under Health Department to combat new form of diseases and accelerate fight against child mortality.
Those two vaccines would be provided in addition to the babies along with other regular vaccines meant for traditional diseases.
Civil Surgeon of the district Dr. Md Mostafizur Rahman announced the information in an advocacy meeting held at the conference room of his office on Saturday attended by representatives of different cross section of people including journalists.
The two newly introduced vaccines are pneumoccal conjugate vaccine (PCV) and inactive polio vaccine (IPV).
The CS informed that PCV would fight against a disease called s pneumonia attacking respiratory system of infants which might cause acute breathing problem and even consciousness, loss of body temperature, paralysis and even death.
The other vaccine IPV have been introduced in the EPI programme under Polio eradication and endgame strategic plan 2013-2018 of world health organization (WHO).
This new improvised IPV vaccine would reduce the risk of re-attack of polio type-2 virus in new form, which gradually replace traditional oral polio vaccine (OPV).
With the introduction of the new vaccines, the child mortality would be controlled tremendously; the CS expressed his optimism as saying.
Health Department sources informed that under EPI, babies were so far been provided with various vaccines to prevent diseases like tuberculosis, diphtheria, hoofing cough, tetanus, hepatitis-B, poliomyelitis, hymophylus influengia-B, measles and rubella.
PCV, IPV to save babies: Jhantu
BSS from Rangpur adds: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has called for introducing Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) and Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) successfully to save the babies from deadly diseases.
Jhantu, a valiant freedom fighter, said this while presiding over an advocacy workshop on ‘Introduction of PCV and IPV in Routine EPI Programmes’ organised by its Health Division at City Bhaban auditorium here on Saturday afternoon as the chief guest.
