Court Correspondent :
Two more witnesses testified in a tribunal of Feni on Tuesday over the murder of madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Mamunur Rashid recorded their depositions.
Those who testified yesterday were Feni District Sadar Hospital’s Resident Physician Dr Abu Taher and Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex physician Arman Bin Abdullah. The court recorded their till depositions 3.30 pm and the defence lawyers cross-examined them. The lawyers were
found adamant in the face of the defence lawyers cross-examinations on Tuesday. With them, 63 witnesses out of 92 testified in the sensational murder case. The court summoned eight more witnesses to testify on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Gias Uddin Nannu, the lawyer of an accused in the case, filed a contempt of court petition with the court against a Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Officer.
He alleged that PBI’s Additional Superintendent of Police Moin Uddin recently stated that witnesses in the murder case were being threatened.
“The remark is clearly contemptuous,” the lawyer said, seeking remedy from the court.
Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 for her refusal to withdraw a case filed against her madrasa’s principal Sirajuddoula accusing him of sexually harassing her. She died on 10 April at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The trial of the murder case formally got underway on 27 June with the deposition of first witness Mahmudul Hasan Noman, elder brother of the deceased and also the complainant of the case.
