Noakhali gangrape: 2 more suspects arrested

Police on Friday arrested two more suspected persons from Chattogram in connection with the gang-rape of a woman for allegedly voting for ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ in Charjubli Union of Subarnachar upazila in Noakhali district.
The law enforcers arrested Jasim Uddin, 30, a banana trader, from Nazirhat of Char Jabbar of Chattogram around 6:30am, said Char Jabbar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nizam Uddin.
Besides, Police detained one Hasan Alai alias Bhulu, 60, for his suspected connection with the rape from Doaublmuring area of Chattogram district around 2:00pm of Friday.  
Md Ilias Sharif, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district, said, “Law enforcers  
have arrested the duo for their alleged connection based on investigation of the much talk rape incident.”
With this, seven persons, including the key planner and Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, so far, have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape incident, the SP said.
In the case statement, the victim’s husband Siraj Uddin filed a case with Subarnachar Police Station on vote day’s night (Sunday night).
He said, nine miscreants stormed into their house early hours on December 31.
They tied up the victim’s husband and children with rope, dragged her out of home and then raped.
The criminals also hit the victim mercilessly with stick and axe.
Local people rescued the victim the next morning and rushed her to Noakhali General Hospital.
