Two persons accused of killing a schoolboy after kidnapping, were killed in a ‘shootout’ with law enforcers in Kushtia district on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Chithalia near the Paharpur Bridge of Mirpur upazila around 5am, said Rafiqul Islam, Office In-Charge of Mirpur Police Station.
The deceased have been identified as Nayem Islam, 23, and Joyar Ali, 25.
Deb Dutta was a student of Chithalia Primary School. He was abducted on June 8 by the miscreants when he was on the way to a private coaching centre.
That evening, the kidnappers called his father Pabitra Dutta over phone and demanded Tk 50 lakh as ransom. The family rather filed a case against miscreants a day later.
OC Rafiqul said that the police found Deb’s body in a sack dumped in the septic tank of Nayem house around 2:30pm on Monday. Police arrested Nayem and Joyar that day.
The police later conducted a drive in the neighborhood along with the suspected killers to arrest other accused, he said.
‘Sensing the presence of police, the abductors opened fire on them and the police retaliated, triggering a gunfight.”
Nayem and Joyar were fatally injured when they tried to flee the scene during the gunfight. They were rushed to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared them dead.
Four policemen named Lal Chand, Emdadul Haque, Ruhul Amin and Saiful Islam were injured in the gunfight.
Two pistols and few sharp weapons were recovered from the scene, OC Rafiqul said.
