Two more cases have been filed in Laxmipur and Narayanganj against Abdul Latif Siddique, who was just dropped from the cabinet as Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister, for hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslims.
Advocate AKM Masud, a lawyer of Laxmipur Judge Court, filed a case with the Laxmipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, Senior Judicial Magistrate Afsana Abedin kept the order pending.
Besides, Advocate Shah Mazharul Haque, general secretary of Kadamrasul Poura unit of BNP of Bandar upazila of Narayanganj, filed the other case with the Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate on Sunday morning.
Chandni Rupon, Magistrate of the Senior Judicial Court, asked the sacked minister to appear before the court on December 9 to explain his comments.
At a views-exchange meeting with expatriates from Tangail in New York on September 28, Latif Siddique made disparaging remarks about hajj, one of the main pillars of Islam, and Tablig Jamaat.
He had said: “During hajj, too much of manpower is wasted. Over 20 lakh people have gone to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj. They’ve no work, no production and they only cause deduction.”
“Some 20 lakh Tablig Jamaat people get together annually who don’t do any work except halting traffic movement across the country,” he added.
Abdul Latif Siddique was finally dropped from the cabinet on Sunday, two weeks after his derogatory comments.
President Abdul Hamid put an end to Latif’s appointment as minister on the advice of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
