2 more Boeing aircraft added to Biman fleet

Two more new aircraft of Boeing 737-800 named Meghdoot and Mayurpankhi were added to the national fleet of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Tuesday.
With this, the number of aircrafts of the national flag carrier reached 14.
As per the agreement with a US Company, Boeing Akash Pradip, Palki, Arun Alo and Ranga Provat were added to the national fleet earlier. With the fresh two, six planes from the Boeing Company have so far been added to the national fleet.

To mark the induction of Biman’s two Boeing-aircraft, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended an inaugural function as the chief guest at the VVIP Terminal of HSIA in the city on Tuesday.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Secretary Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, Biman Chairman Air Marshal (Retd) Jamal Uddin Ahmed and other high officials of the national flag carrier, among others, were present at the inaugural ceremony. In 2008, the army-backed caretaker government signed a contract with a US company to buy 10 new aircraft for the national carrier.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the employees and officials of Biman to make the organization profitable.
 “It is your organization. It is your sacred duty to make the Biman a profitable organization,” she said while addressing the inaugural session.
She also asked the Biman employees and staff to increase quality service to ferry the passengers as well as cargo service. “There will be no compromise in connection with increasing the service,” the Prime Minister warned.
She said, her government’s main aim is to further strengthen the national flag carrier alongside increasing and improving its service to the passengers so that the Bangladeshis living across the world choose this airlines.
 “We are inducting new aircraft and you have to protect and maintain those to uphold the image of Biman. I am asking you (officials and staff) to work sincerely in order to continue pace of development,” Sheikh Hasina said.  
She said that during the rule of BNP-Jamaat government, the organization become a corrupt organization.  
Sheikh Hasina said that her government would increase more international routes to make the Biman profitable. “Meanwhile, we have increased flight schedule to London, Kuala Lampur, Jeddah, Dammam, Riyadh and Bangkok,” she said.
The Biman will operate its flight to Canton of China and Colombo of Sri Lanka from the month of April.
 “At the same time, the suspended routes will be resumed. She asked officials and staff of the Biman to take proper care of the national flag carrier and ensure better service so that everybody becomes proud of it.
“I shall ask those working at Biman to keep in mind that you are not only making your livelihood, but it is a symbol representing the country,” Sheikh Hasina said.
