Burning of the body: 2 more arrested in Burimari

Police have arrested two more accused in three cases filed in connection with the burning of the body of Shahidunnabi Jewel after he was beaten to death in Burimari of Lalmonirhat. So far 38 people have been arrested.
District Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Farooq confirmed the arrest at noon on November 23.
The arrested are Abdur Razzak Babla, 28, son of Shahidul Islam from Auliarhat Kamatpara area of Srirampur union in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat and GM Manik, 45, son of Abul Hossain of Ufarmara Sonarvita area of Burimari union of the same upazila.
OC Omar Farooq said that Babla and Manik were arrested from Burimari area around 11:30 pm on November 22 in connection with the case of attack on police and attack on UP building before the murder of Sahidunnabi Jewel.
They have been arrested after finding evidence of involvement in the investigation in two cases. A total of 36 people were arrested. Police have remanded 13 of them for various interrogations.
The court has fixed November 25 for hearing of the five-day remand application of another person named Abu Kalam alias Gamcha Kamal. Among them, Mulhota Burimari Union Sramik League president Abul Hossain alias Hossain, decorator and mosque attendant Jobed Ali and four others have given confessional statements.
Earlier, an attack took place at Burimari Bazar Central Jame Mosque in Patgram Upazila on the night of October 29. The deceased was identified as Shahidunnabi Jewel, son of Abdul Wazed Miah for Shalban Mistripara in Rangpur. He was a former librarian of Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College and a former student of Dhaka University (DU). He lost some of his mental balance after being fired last year.
