Two more accused, including the prime accused, in the gang-rape of a woman in Noakhali gave confessional statements before a court on Sunday.
The prime accused Nur Hossain Badal and Main Uddin Saju gave their statements in two cases filed under the Women and Children Repression Act and Pornography Act over the incident, said Gulzar Ahmed Jewel, public prosecutor (PP) at Noakhali District Judge’s Court.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Masfiqul Haque of Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court recorded their statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) this afternoon.
With them, all seven arrested in the case have given statements under section 164, said PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) Inspector Mostafizur Rahman.
However, Rahamat Ullah, the seventh accused in the case, was sent to jail by the court when presented before the magistrate.
Meanwhile, members of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Sunday visited the rape survivor’s house in Joykrishnapur village in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali and gathered evidence
related to the gang rape.
PBI SP Mizanur Rahman said PBI inspector Mamunur Rashid Patwary is investigating the case filed under the Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Act, while another PBI Inspector, Mostafizur Rahman, is investigating the case filed under the Pornography Control Act.
The investigation officers and other high officials of PBI inspected the house and its adjacent areas thoroughly for about 20 minutes. However, they did not speak to anyone.
On Thursday, the two cases filed under two different acts in connection with the torture and gang rape of the woman in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, were transferred to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for further enquiry.
The cases were handed over to PBI upon the directive of police headquarters, said M Alamgir Hossain, superintendent of Noakhali police.
On September 2, a criminal gang forced their way into the woman’s house and tied up her husband in the next room. They stripped the woman naked, beat her up, raped her using an object, and video recorded the whole thing – which later went viral on social media on Sunday (October 4).
Subsequently, the rape survivor filed the two cases with Begumganj police station.
11 people have so far been arrested and seven of them have confessed to their crimes so far in connection with the incident.
