Police have found the bodies of two siblings, who were reportedly missing since Saturday evening, in Keshabpur and Sharsha upazilas of Jashore district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Farooq Hossain, 50, and Azizul Islam, 45, son of late Jeher Ali from Samta village under Sharsha upazila in the district.
Police say, they believe that Azizul, who is a suspect in a drug-related case, was killed in a shootout between two drug gangs.
Sharsha police found Azizul’s bullet-riddle body in a garden at Dhantara village in the upazila while Farooq’s body was found in Rampur area of Keshabpur Upazila. Saidul identified the man as his brother.
Azizul’s body was reported by Dhantara villagers on Sunday, said Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir.
“Two gangs of drug dealers engaged in a gunfight in the area. We believe Azizul was killed in the crossfire. He is also a known local drug dealer.”
At least seven cases had been filed against Azizul with various police stations in the district, said Bagachhara Police Camp Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdur Rahim Howladar.
“The deceased had found in injury marks on his neck,” said Keshabpur Police OC Mohammad Shaheen.
Saidul Islam, younger brother of the deceased identified the bodies as his missing brothers at Jashore General Hospital morgue in the afternoon.
Saidul told the media in the hospital that the two had left home together for shopping at 7:00pm. The family began looking for them when they did not return by 10pm. Police were informed of the matter.
