Two minor girls drowned in the Mora River at Kalidaho in Joypurhat municipality area on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Zinia, 5, daughter of Golam Kibria Sagor of Buritola village and Oishi, 3, daughter of Anik Hossain Pappu, hailing from Shimultoli village in Panchbibi upazila of the district.
Mominul Haque Momin, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Joypurhar Police Station said they slipped into the Mora River, a branch of the Jamuna River, around 11am while playing on the bank of the river.
Later, local fisherman Jemi Hossain spotted the floating bodies and informed the family members of the victims.
Family members in association with locals recovered the bodies, the OC added.
