Staff Reporter :
Detective Branch (DB) Police suspects the involvement of two militant organisations in the murder of Supreme Court Mosque Khatib Nurul Islam Faruqi.
Speaking to journalists in the city on Monday, DB joint commissioner Monirul Islam said that Faruqi was killed for his ideological stand.
He said that Faruqi was most likely murdered by those who killed Imam Mahdi’s follower Lutfur Rahman and six others in Gopibagh last year.
The name of the two militant groups remained unknown. Nurul Islam Faruqi was killed on 27 August at his East Rajabazar residence in Dhaka. Police arrested two, including a woman, in this connection.
