Vessel workers went on a sudden strike on Monday afternoon protesting action against two launch masters by Dhaka’s Marine Court following an accident.
Movement of water transports from Sadarghat has been suspended from 2pm on Monday due to the strike.Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation (BNSF) leader Ashiqul Alam said the workers began the strike as the masters did not get bail in a bailable case.
BIWTA joint director Joynal Abedin told media that workers removed launches from the main pontoon of Sadarghat in the afternoon as two masters did not get bail from the Marine Court.
“But, the launches on Chandpur route are plying via Lalkuthi ghat,” he added.
The federation’s Barishal unit president Abul Hashem Master said Adventure-1 and Adveture-9 had a collision in the Meghna River last year due to dense fog, but, none was injured in the accident.
Certificates of four staff including the two masters– Ruhul Amin and Almas– had been confiscated and a case filed with the Marine Court at that time, he added.
“The court sent the due to the jail as they appeared in it today,” said Hashem.
